Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative to move to Durham Innovation District

The Durham Innovation District lands a major new client for its unfolding development in downtown, landing the Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative.

The Duke I&E, as it is called, will move off the Duke campus and occupy 15,000 square feet on the third floor of the Imperial Building at the Innovation District.

The Innovation District was announced last October. Estimated to cost between $400-$500 million, It will cover some 15 acres.

In addition to offices, the space will be used for collaboration, events and classrooms.

The announcement was made during an economic development forum discussion led by Gov. Pat McCrory.

“Duke I&E is a perfect fit for Durham.ID, which is quickly taking shape as a world class home to talented minds and game-changing ideas,” said Jessica Brock, Durham-based managing director at Longfellow Real Estate Partners, which is developing the project with Measurement Inc. “Our network of facilities is designed to accommodate everything from the advanced wet lab science of Duke researchers at the Carmichael Building to Duke I&E’s nurturing of young entrepreneurs and startups. We look forward to the boundless energy Duke I&E will bring and to seeing it multiply as Durham.ID grows.”

Duke I&E Initiative is aimed at fostering innovation at the university.
