The Research Triangle Regional Partnership is moving its headquarters to Cary from space at RDU International Airport, the economic development group says.

“RDU needs the space, and that’s a sign of the airport’s success and the region’s success,” said Charles Hayes, president and CEO of RTRP, in a statement early Wednesday.

The partnership has been housed at RDU from its laun ch nearly a quarter century ago.

The RTRP will occupy 3,000 square feet of office space in Cary at the North Carolina Bar Center as of Feb. 1.

“We’ll remain conveniently located at the center of the region and just a few minutes from the airport,” Hayes said.

Hayes also noted that the partnership’s office will now be located only a short distance from the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina. That group is the private statewide partnership formed last year in a spin-off from the North Carolina’s Department of Commerce.

The regional partnership includes Chatham, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Nash, Moore, Person, Vance, Warren, Wake and Wilson counties.
