  • Who is Joe Colopy?

Joe Colopy is the CEO of Bronto Software.

  • For those who don’t know, tell us about Bronto.

Bronto Software provides a cloud-based marketing platform for brands to drive revenue through their email, mobile and social campaigns. Bronto is the number one ranked email marketing provider to the Internet Retailer Top 1000 and has a client roster of leading brands worldwide, including including Armani Exchange, Timex, JustFab, Samsonite and Boot Barn.

  • What has Bronto done this year that makes Joe most proud?

This year, Bronto became the #1 provider of email marketing to retailers in the US. “This is a goal we’ve been working on for seven years and are thrilled to have finally accomplished it,” said Colopy.

Additionally, the company launched Bronto Apps which, according to Colopy, “is the equivalent of Apple launching the iPhone back in 2007 and all the wonderful things that came from that.”

Lastly, expanded beyond Durham and the UK, and established a team in Sydney, Australia, where they’ve seen tremendous growth.

  • How are you involved in the community?

“My kids are all in Durham Public Schools so, at home, my wife and I are most involved in things that support their schools. I also enjoy speaking to those studying entrepreneurship at my alma mater, UNC.”

Colopy has also worked to be sure that volunteerism is tied into the corporate culture at Bronto. In 2013, Bronto collectively volunteered over 2000 hours with great Durham organizations, such as Urban Ministries, SEEDS, Habitat for Humanity, and the Emily K Center. This year the company is on track to exceed their goal of giving back more than 2500 hours of service.

  • Three Cool things about Joe Colopy:

1. Joe loves cars. He has a “Bugeye” and a Tesla with the license plate “BRONTO,” and hosts “Tesla Tuesdays,” when he takes employees on a ride in his Tesla.
2. Joe has four kids, each of whom has a first name that starts with the letter X.
3. Joe named the company Bronto because of his love for dinosaurs as a seven year old.
