For a moment, Quintiles executives took time to celebrate on Friday.

Chairman and co-founder Dr. Dennis Gillings joined his company’s executive management team for the ringing of the opening bell on the NYSE on Friday.

Quintiles (NYSE: Q) executed the biggest IPO in Triangle history on Thursday.

After the ceremony, it was back to work as the world’s largest life science services firm began its second stint as a public company.

Shares traded mid-morning Friday at $42.02, down from an opening day high of $44.33.

Quintiles priced its shares at $40 and raised some $950 million for the company, investors – and its chairman.
