Verizon Wireless is expanding its “4G” broadband offering in eastern North Carolina as of Thursday.

The broadband service will be turned on officially in Goldsboro, Kinston, Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mount and Wilson, the company said Wednesday.

The new expansion means that Verizon Wireless will provide a coverage area in the state home to 76 percent of the population.

Customers also can access 4G broadband in their homes through Verizon’s HomeFusion Broadband product.

The 4G service known as LTE, or long term evolution, offers up to 10 times faster data speeds than other services.

Coverage areas and other information can be found at the Verizon Wireless website.
