RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – TechCrunch is drawing a big crowd for its “Southeast Mini Meetup” tour on Tuesday.

The Bull City event has already drawn more than 500 registrations.

An event also is scheduled in Charlotte on Wednesday, but that one so far has drawn limited interest – some 91 registrations as of early Monday.

A big bash is set tonight in Atlanta with more than 1,000 people registered.

“TechCrunch is doing some stops around the South and wanted a Triangle location. We grabbed them,” Billy Warden of the media relations firm GBW Associates, told The Skinny last month when news broke about the event.

“The interest has been huge. TC definitely has an allure for tech companies large and small. Should be an interesting night!”

The 500-plus crowd is huge – reminiscent of the “Deck Parties” thrown in the past by Tech Journal South.

As we noted before, tech entrepreneurs often crave publicity – for fund raising, marketing and in some cases ego gratification. Making the TechCrunch blog is high on the list.

While the event, from 6-9 p.m. at Tyler’s Taproom in the American Tobacco complex, is free, registration is required.
