A new high-tech jobs report finds that advertised openings across North Carolina fell in April by nearly 3 percent after a big jump in March.

The report from the N.C. Technology Association says the drop is “not surprising given the slow, ongoing recovery.”

The daily average of openings fell to 5,510 in April after jumping to 5,670 in March. That was the highest number since before the recession started in 2007.

April openings were still nearly 900 higher than a year ago and almost 2,400 higher than April 2010.

Durham hiring needs did grow in Durham but fell in Raleigh and remained unchanged in Charlotte, according to data compiled by talent management firm SkillPROOF.

Biggest demand for talent was in systems engineering and support at 1,570, an increase of more than 300 in April 2011. However, the latest data represents a drop of 340 from March.

Software development openings were next at 1,250, an increase of 100 from March and up from 670 a year ago.
