Millennium Laboratory, which provides a variety of medical lab testing services, is being sold.

As a result, 140 people employed by the North Raleigh-based company will lose their jobs, the firm says.

The deal for Millennium is expected to be announced this week, according to information provided to WRAL Tech Wire.

Millennium Laboratory has already notified the North Carolina Department of Commerce about the layoffs. In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN notice, filed earlier this month, the privately held company said it is closing “on or about May 4.”

Company executives did not respond to inquiries from WRAL Tech Wire about the closure.

Millennium said in the notice that it “is being sold to another laboratory company,” company president Craig Hili wrote in the WARN report.

The firm’s office is located at 3362 Six Forks Road.

Millennium also has a presence in medical facilities in Smithfield, Garner, Cary, Holly Springs, Greenville and Fayetteville.

Most of the jobs lost are lab technicians (57), couriers (15) and medical technologists (8).
