CARY, N.C. – The SAS Institute took home both the Alliance Program Excellence and Innovative Alliance Practice awards, two of four presented at last month’s Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (ASAP) annual event.

Approximately 400 alliance professionals from around the world gathered at ASAP’s annual Alliance Excellence Awards Recognition Dinner in Las Vegas.

Under the theme “People, Focus and Execution,” SAS developed a comprehensive professional development program for its alliance professionals, overhauling its partner portfolio management process – which included a new partner scoring methodology – and established new partner coverage models.

“The ASAP Alliance Excellence Awards are the most prestigious honor in the alliance management community,” said Scott VanValkenburgh, SAS Senior Director of Alliances. “SAS was recognized for improving our overall alliance competency, maturity and capability – resulting in stellar partnering results for 2011.”

VanValkenburgh said ASAP specifically honored SAS’ efforts in two primary areas: partner portfolio scoring methodology and alliance professional development framework.

What ASAP found particularly noteworthy was the integration of new alliance roles at SAS and a training program with SAS HR Global Career Framework. Additionally, ASAP cited the company’s portfolio management approach – beyond assessing partnership value and maturity – and looked at the establishment of new coverage models that ensure the right people with the right skills were covering the right partnerships.

Founded in 1998, ASAP is a professional association dedicated to elevating and promoting the profession and discipline of alliance management. More details about the awards will be in the next issue of Strategic Alliance Magazine.
