Cara Garney, a former executive at Raleigh-based BTI, is the new vice president for channel marketing at EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK).

The IT services, network and communications company operates across the United States and employs some 80 people in Raleigh.

Garney joined EarthLink following its acquisition of Deltacom in 2010.

Before Deltacom, Garney was an executive with Business Telecom Inc., or BTI, which was based in Raleigh. Those two companies merged.

In her new role, Garney will direct market research, marketing communications and channel marketing. She will continue to be based in Raleigh. Her previous title was senior director of channel marketing.

“With nearly 20 years of experience in the information technology and telecommunications industry, Cara is a versatile and motivated leader with demonstrated experience in marketing, client development and customer experience management,” said Barbara Dondiego, EarthLink’s chief marketing officer. “Cara’s knowledge and strategic planning expertise will be integral to EarthLink Business’ continuing efforts to strengthen and grow partnerships across all of our distribution channels.”
