Alex Pinchev, top sales executive at Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), is taking over as chief executive officer at Acronis, a data protection firm based in Massachusetts.
Pinchev’s departure from Red Hat was disclosed last week. However, the name of the company he would be taking over was not announced.
Acronis, a development partner with Red Hat, issued a press release about Pinchev’s hiring early Tuesday.
Pinchev is not new to Acronis, having served on the firm’s board for the past year. He will take over as CEO on Jan. 17, replacing Jason Donahue who had served in that job for the past three years. Pinchev keeps his board seat.
“Acronis has a winning combination of talented employees and market leading technology, with a broad channel ecosystem and a great global customer base,” Pinchev said in a statement. “With a successful business in data protection and disaster recovery solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, Acronis now has the opportunity to further develop its routes-to-market and expand its technology presence. I am excited to join the talented team at Acronis and to meet the growing demands of our customers worldwide.”
Launched in 2003, Acronis says it has more than 175,000 customers.
“We are proud to have an industry leader of Alex’s caliber join us at this time in the company’s development,” said Ilya Zubarev, chairman of the Acronis board. “Since Alex joined our board in 2010, we have benefited from his extensive experience, sharp business acumen and vision for the future development of the virtual and cloud markets. We believe that Alex’s strong leadership will accelerate Acronis’ journey to be a global leader in backup and recovery solutions not only for physical servers, but for virtual environments, and into the cloud.”
Pinchev has worked at Red Hat 2003.
“Pinchev leads the company’s worldwide sales, services, and field marketing organizations,” his biography at Red Hat reads.
“As Executive Vice President and President, Alex drives strategic relationships with global customers and business partners while overseeing geographical and US public sector operations. His business and technology leadership has been instrumental in the company’s tremendous international growth and expansion into emerging markets.
“During the course of his 25-year career, Alex has built exceptional entrepreneurial and international acumen and has led several successful start-up companies, including MainControl, Inc., where he served as chairman, president, CEO, and founder.”
