The term is “bootstrap.” To entrepreneurs, it means finding a way to grow a company without having outside investors.

Some companies can bootstrap their ways to success; others can’t.

Just how to do so is the topic of the next Entrepreneur’s Series event from Raleigh-based Southern Capitol Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm. It is scheduled for Dec. 12 at Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh.

Declining technology costs – such as through cloud computing and open source services such as software – have made bootstrapping a better alternative as the four CEOs will discuss.

The panelists:

• Joe Colopy, CEO, Bronto
• Kent Hudson, CEO, SchoolDude
• Jesse Lipson, CEO, ShareFile (which was acquired recently by Citrix)
• Troy McConnell, CEO, Clever On Demand

David Ranii, a business reporter for The News & Observer, will be the moderator.
