Siri, one of the hottest features on the new iPhone 4S, the voice-activated personal assistant app, will not be added to older devices, Apple tells a Mac-related website,
Michael Steeber, a blogger at Cult of Mac, contacted Apple about rumors that Siri could be added to older iPhones and other devices.
He received the following response:
“Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue:
“Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices.”
Some tech bloggers and Apple customers were not pleased.
“The news will come as a disappointment to those owners of earlier iOS products that hoped Apple would extend the current Siri beta to cover their hardware, rather than use it as a unique selling point of the iPhone 4S,” wrote a blogger at SlashGear.
“The possibility of Apple brining Siri to other iOS devices was already slim, but this pretty much confirms that it won’t be happening. Although, Apple has been known to go back on their word before.”
The news about Siri came just hours after Apple’s latest phone was “recommended” by Consumer Reports, something that didn’t happen for the previous iPhone 4 due to an antenna glitch. Read details here.
