The latest North Carolina IT Jobs Trends report shows demand for various categories is close to the number of openings from one year ago.

Overall openings are down from September 2010 but are up 12 percent from August.

Here’s a breakdown by the top 10 categories:

Job openings by category (2010 total in parenthesis):

• Systems engineering/support: 1,170 (1,320)

• IT architects/consultants: 670 (840)

• Software development: 550 (600)

• IT management: 540 (620)

• IT sales and marketing: 360 (390)

• Systems administration: 170 (210)

• Hardware engineering: 170 (60)

• Business/process design: 100 (130)

• Training/tech writing: 20 (50)

• Misc. categories: 110 (20)
