Demand for specific categories of workers fell in seven of the top 10 in July as tracked by the North Carolina IT Job Trends report from the N.C. Technology Association.

The only increases came in hardware engineering, business process and design and “miscellaneous.”

The overall number of daily advertised job openings fell to 3,680 from 4,260 a year ago, the IT Job Trends report says.

Here are the top 10 with 2010 figures in parenthesis:

• Total IT job market: 3,680 (4,260)

• Systems engineering and support: 1,110 (1,200)

• IT management: 590 (660)

• Software development: 570 (690)

• IT architecture/consultants: 520 (820)

• IT sales and marketing: 320 (460)

• Hardware engineering: 180 (40)

• Systems administration: 160 (240)

• Business/process design: 150 (80)

• Training/tech writing: 30 (40)

• Misc. IT job categories: 70 (40)
