Demand for information technology workers fell by 10 percent in July from June but demand for some skill sets is higher than a year ago, according to the new North Carolina IT Job Trends report.

Openings for C++, V++ and Perl programmers, mainframe, virtualization and web services workers are higher than July 2010.

Here’s the breakdown of the top 10 skill sets with 2010 figures in parenthesis:

• SQL: 680 (690)

• Oracle DBMS: 620 (900)

• Windows OS: 560 (770)

• Java: 550 (610)

• Unix: 480 (620)

• Large systems technologies: 420 (520)

• Business analysis: 410 (600)

• Linux: 410 (450)

• Microsoft SQL Server: 400 (450)

• C++/V++: 380 (350)

• XML: 250 (250)

• Perl: 240 (130)

• Mainframe: 220 (180)

• Virtualization technology: 220 (140)

• Web services: 200 (160)
