CHARLOTTE, N.C. — AT&T (NYSXE: T) is hiring dozens of technicians across North Carolina as the company expands its U-verse services.

The company said Monday it plans to hire more than 50 technicians over the next few months. That includes 30 jobs in Charlotte, 20 in the Raleigh and Durham areas, and three in Greensboro.

AT&T announced similar hiring plans for South Carolina last week. More than 40 technicians will be hired in that state, split among Greenville, Columbia and Charleston.

According to the company, AT&T added nearly 1 million subscribers nationally to its U-verse service in 2010 and has nearly 3 million customers.

“We are expanding the availability of our award-recognized AT&T U-verse services and signing up new customers every day, and we have to hire more U-verse technicians to keep up with the growing demand,” said Cynthia Marshall, president, AT&T North Carolina. “We’re proud to serve so many local communities in North Carolina with our advanced U-verse services and proud of the quality jobs our U-verse investment has created.”

AT&T spokesman Josh Gelinas says the company offers the U-verse services to customers in those cities and is hiring to keep up with the growing demand.

The system provides television, high-speed internet, home telephone and wireless services.
