RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Mustard Tree Instruments has secured $4.8 million in first-round funding, the company announced Thursday.

It will use the money to expand its headquarters and laboratory in Research Triangle Park, develop its sales territory in North America and Europe, and continue to develop two new products set to hit the market later this year and in 2012.

The company, which last month introduced its first device, creates and delivers drug testing equipment.

Lori Searls, the company’s marketing director, told the Raleigh News Observer, that the company will be hiring numerous people in the next several months.

Founded in May 2009, Mustard Tree has 23 full-time employees, a majority of whom are based in RTP.

Mustard Tree was founded in May of 2009 by Todd Blonshine, CEO, Carl Hellman and W. Christopher Daum.
