• 3-D effort wins Microsoft award for PPD

PPD (Nasdaq: PPDI) and its partner ProtonMedia received the 2011 Life Sciences Innovation Award from Microsoft this week.

PPD and ProtonMedia were recognized for development of a virtual, collaborative 3D tool that can be used for clinical trial training.

“The life sciences industry is uniquely positioned with many new challenges, and pressure is stronger than ever to cut costs and bring new drugs and therapies to market faster,” PPD said in a statement.

• Dex One steps up Internet video efforts for advertisers

The Cary-based yellow pages and interactive advertising firm says it is working with StudioNow and bieMEDIA so it can “deliver a full spectrum of Internet video offerings from on-site shooting and production to very economical, yet impactful, video slideshows.”
