Insomniac Games, which has a studio in Durham, is developing a new four-player action game along with gaming giant Electronic Arts.

The two companies announced at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles on Monday the development of “Overstrike 9,” which will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation platforms.

Insomniac is creator of the “Ratchet & Clank” and “Resistance” franchises. The Durham studio is working on the next release of “Ratchet & Clank.”

Overstrike features a team of “agents” targeting a global terrorist group.

“Overstrike presents a unique blend of features that have long been a part of the Insomniac DNA: high powered gadgets, action-heavy gameplay, memorable characters in a deep and mysterious universe and of course a touch of humor,” said Ted Price, founder and chief executive officer of Insomniac. “And since this is our first multiplatform game, we’re especially excited to introduce ourselves to a new audience – one which may not have experienced our previous games.”

Insomniac has sold more than 35 million games for the PlayStation console since its launch 17 years ago.

EA operates a studio in Morrisville.
