RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Epic Games could unveil a motion controller version for its smash hit “Gears of War” franchise today at the E3 expo in Los Angeles.
Last November, Cliff Bleszinski, the creative guru at Epic, said no Kinect – the motion controller technology for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game system – was in the works.
However, the rumors are that Epic and Microsoft, which publishes Epic’s Gears franchise, could disclose a Kinect Gears version. Gears 3 is set to go on sale in September.
The game already is setting records for pre-orders with well over 1 million, And the recently released demo has been a big hit.
At his Twitter account, which Bleszinki often uses to leak Epic-related news, Cliff wrote Sunday:
“Informed our Microsoft pals that our presentation is not loud enough and that we do, in fact, want the b[….] of the audience to tremble.”
Bleszinski also tweeted that Epic is taking today’s press conference quite seriously.
“Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse,” he tweeted on Saturday. “No goofy one liners this year!”
John Gaudiosi, who writes about the videogame industry for WRAL Tech Wire, advised on Sunday that the Microsoft press conference Monday morning “will have some big Epic news” about Gears 3. He also said “Gears Kinect” news could be made.
Meanwhile, Insomniac Games, another Triangle game company, is releasing “Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One,” Gaudiosi reports.
