Sensus, the Raleigh-based firm best known for its “smart metering” technology, is offering a new device and service for remote or wireless shutoff of gas service.
The Remote Gas Shutoff device enables utility firms to turn off gas service either from an office or from a wireless transmission through a walk-by or drive-by system.
“When we set out to develop the Sensus RGS, our team spoke with gas utility engineers to determine what features and functionalities they would like to see in the product,” said Chris Wykle, director of gas marketing for Sensus. “The result is a versatile, programmable device that enables operations personnel to efficiently perform duties from gas meter shut off to safety monitoring.”
According to the company, the gas device and offering lowers risks from gas leaks and also lowers costs since service can be shut down remotely.
