Will McLean, chief investment officer at Northwestern university, and Andreas Ritter, a former private equity investment manager for Duke University’s endowment, are joining the investment committee for Square 1 Ventures.

Square 1 Ventures is the private equity investment group of venture capital bank Square 1, which is based in Durham.

Doug Bowers, a 25-year veteran at Bank of America, is the new chief executive officer of Square 1. He took over last month. Bowers succeeded Square 1 founder and CEO Richard Casey, who died in November.

McLean oversees a $6.5 billion portfolio at Northwestern. He has been in that job since 2002. McLean earlier in his career had been an investment officer with the Duke Endowment.

Ritter now works as managing director of ARICO, an investment advisory firm. While managing Duke’s endowment, he oversaw a $2 billion portfolio.

“I am pleased that we were able to attract two individuals held in such high regard by the industry,” said Adrian Wilson, the president of Square 1 Ventures, in a statement. “Their experience, along with our insight as direct participants in the venture market, will serve to further improve our decision making capabilities.”
