RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Last week, multiple reports surfaced about a new tablet submitted for testing to the FCC by Lenovo. Named the “Skylight,” the slate (all-touch) device triggered a great deal of web chatter.

Is this the Le Pad now being sold in China or a new machine?

“There’s no additional information to share at this time,” Kristy Fair of Lenovo Global Communications told WRAL Tech Wire in an e-mail.

However, the website Laptop has declared the Skylight is the Le Pad – with some modifications such as a different version of the Android operating system.

“The 1.7-pound slate has been selling as the Le Pad in China with a nicely skinned version of Android 2.2 for a while now, but Lenovo is expected to bring the Skylight Slate to North America with Android 3.0,” Laptop says. “We had a hands-on with the LePad at CES and were impressed with the attractive chassis and even more attractive UI user interface].”
