Bayer CropScience will expand its campus in RTP with a new greenhouse that will cover 60,000 square feet and cost $20 million to build.

The company announced the expansion at its headquarters in Germany.

The RTP facility is Bayer CropScience’s North American headquarters.

Some 25 employees can be accommodated by the new greenhouse, which will be utilized for genetically modified and on-genetically modified seed research.

“We continue to expand our activities in seeds traits. With the BioScience Innovation Center in Morrisville and the construction of the new greenhouse, the RTP area is rapidly becoming a major research hub for our company,” said Sandra Peterson, chairman of the board, at Bayer CropScience.

The company reported a 36.6 percent increase in product sales last year with its cotton seed business in North America showing the largest growth.
