CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Business Innovation & Growth Council and the NC Department of Commerce are putting on an event Thursday, Jan. 13, designed to promote international business.

The Global Business Development conference gets underway at 1:30 p.m. at the Mint Museum Auditorium and will be followed by a reception.

Speakers include Marco Fregenal, formerly the chief executive officer of Carpio and now with Evoapp, as well Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx and Jean Davis, director of International Trade at the Commerce department.

“No matter how small your company is, this is an excellent opportunity to learn how to expand your business globally,” said Terry Thorson Cox, chief executive officer of the BIG Council.

Norman Cohen of Specialty Chemicals for Textiles will lead a panel discussion. His firm has exported speciality chemicals to 50 countries. He also wrote a book, “Don’t Cry Foul – Just Strike Them Out: Competing Globally and Winning,” which will be published this month.

“A company needs an innovation or interesting technology to compete with, and in some cases, avoid competition from India and China,” Cohen said. “What makes your product stand out?”

Register at the BIG Council website.

“This is meant to be a tactical event that helps people identify great markets and shares with them how others have built their overseas businesses as well as mistakes to avoid,” added Davis. “We’ll walk through the mechanics of international sales.”
