GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) turned 10 years old as a company on Saturday, Dec. 18.
The Associated Press noted that the pharmaceutical giant that emerged from the merger of Glaxo Wellcome PLC and SmithKline Beecham PLC was formerly approved by government regulators on that date.
On the same day, The Electoral College confirmed George Bush as president of the U.S. in his hotly contested battle with Al Gore.
Glaxo Wellcome already had a major presence in the Triangle when the merger was confirmed. RTP is now U.S. headquarters for GSK with some 5,000 people on the payroll across the Triangle region.
