The “Epic Edition” of the new first-person shooter videogame “Bulletstorm” will offer buyers access to the beta version for “Gears of War 3,” Epic Games and its publishing partners said Friday.

Bulletstorm, which promises players the chance to “kill with skill in style,” is being developed by People Can Fly, an Epic subsidiary based in Poland. It goes on sale Feb. 22. The game is designed for the Xbox 360 platform.

Gears 3 is set for release in late 2011. The first two editions won several awards and sold millions of copies. Its popularity led Epic to create an entertainment franchise that includes action figures, books, graphic novels and more.

“Epic is poised to break new ground in 2011 with Gears of War 3 and Bulletstorm,” said Michael Capps, president of Epic Games, in a statement. “With these two highly anticipated triple-A experiences comes a unique opportunity to do something to really excite players, and that’s what we intend to accomplish with the support of Microsoft Game Studios and EA. This is for the shooter fans.”
