RTI International is rolling out a website devoted to forensic toxicology, drug testing and compounds of interest to investigators.

Forensic DB provides a database of spectral information that is searchable by key word, chemical structure and by spectral similarity.

Some 2,500 records have already been placed in the database. Among those is information from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

The National Institute of Justice provided the funding for the grant.

“We want to encourage the forensic community and other chemists to use the database resource and to make contributions to it,” said Peter Stout, a senior research forensic scientist at RTI who also is the curator of the database. “Community users are able to submit records for review and inclusion through the database.”
