More than a dozen foreign diplomats are touring central North Carolina businesses to get a flavor of the region’s green energy innovations and smart-grid technologies.

The science experts from Austria to Thailand will hear Thursday about the work underway at software maker SAS Institute in Cary and the Franklinton operations of Novozymes, a Danish biotech company.

The visit of science, energy and environmental counselors from around the globe tour was organized by the Science Diplomats Club of Washington.

The program aims to show North Carolina’s clusters of smart grid and green technologies to foreign government officials.
