Verizon Wireless plans to add about 900 employees to handle increased business and says 200 of the jobs will be in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The new positions will bring Verizon’s overall work force up about 1 percent to 79,900, a published report said.

“A growing customer base in the exciting world of wireless telecommunications has driven the need for additional skilled employees,” said Jerry Fountain, president of Verizon Wireless’ Carolinas/Tennessee region. “We’re seeking exceptional people with positive attitudes that have a desire to serve and provide the best wireless experience to our more than 93 million customers.”

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE, NASDAQ: VZ) and Vodafone (LSE, Nasdaq: VOD).
