, the developer of such global best-sellers Gears of War and Unreal Tournament, is moving into the Apple operating system and mobile devices with a new role playing game.

Titled the 3-D sword fighting game is being developed by Epic’s ChAIR Entertainment subsidiary, which is based in Utah.

Infinity Blade is designed for players using Apple mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

In September, Epic executives disclosed their expansion from Windows PCs and standard videogame platforms into Apple with a surprise appearance at an Apple media event.

Epic President Mike Capps demonstrated what was called “Project Sword,” and a free development application was also launched. The Epic game under development was not disclosed.

“More than one million people have been introduced to the world of ‘Infinity Blade’ through our free app, Epic Citadel, and soon everyone will be able to play our first fully featured game for [Apple] iOS devices,” Capps said in announcing Infinity Blade.

“With ‘Infinity Blade,’ ChAIR has created an amazing looking, incredibly fun game that really demonstrates the potential of triple-A mobile gaming,” he added.

The game was developed with Epic’s Unreal game engine, one of the most popular in the global gaming industry.

Pricing and a release date will be announced later.
