MORRISVILLE, N.C. – has laid off 38 members of its staff, the web site Kotaku reported Thursday afternoon.

A similar report was received by WRAL.com.

A spokesperson for Red Storm, which is owned by international game firm Ubisoft, to Kotaku.

Best-selling author Tom Clancy launched the action game company in Cary in 1996 and later sold it to Ubisoft.

The cuts were made as part of "a realignment of production priorities,” the spokesperson told Kotaku. According to Kotaku, the spokesperson said that the laid-off people “have the opportunity to consider positions in other Ubisoft studios.”

"Red Storm remains an integral part of Ubisoft’s worldwide production team and will continue to work on the multiplayer component of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier,” the spokesperson added.
