RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Bankrupt is getting some help from the U.S. legal system in a looming fight with the United Kingdom over $3.4 billion in retirement benefits for Nortel retirees in that country.

Nortel has sold most of its assets as part of a liquidation and is working on its plan for dispersal of assets to creditors.
