RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Chris Viehbacher, the former GlaxoSmithKline executive with many connections in the Triangle, is on the prowl for an acquisition in the U.S., according to Bloomberg news.

Viehbacher, chief executive officer at France-based , “briefed the board on the transaction at a special meeting this week,” Bloomberg says.

The deal would represent a “major acquisition,” the news service report.

Since leaving GSK (NYSE: GSK) where he lost out in the battle for the CEO job, Viehbacher has led Sanofi-Aventis through 25 acquisitions worth $17 billion, according to Bloomberg.
