RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Chuck Kissner, chairman of (Nasdaq: AVNW), is now the wireless technology firm’s chief executive officer.

Kissner replaces Harald Braun, who resigned.

Aviat did not disclose why Braun left the company.

Avait recently decided to move its headquarters to Santa Clara, Calif., from RTP but plans to maintain operations in the Triangle.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to lead Aviat Networks and rebuild shareholder value," Kissner said in a statement. "We have an excellent market opportunity, a strong customer base, great technology and talented employees. Our challenges are to optimize our business model, accelerate innovation and improve the speed and effectiveness of our initiatives.”

Kissner was CEO of Aviat’s predecessor Stratex Networks from 1995 to 2000 and 2001 through 2006.

Aviat recently changed its name form Harris Stratex
