RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – A pair of Triangle-based high-tech startups that are focused on video related technology are among the 100 finalists for Red Herrin’s “North America 100” award.

focuses on management of metadata within video for search and such uses as advertising.

is a global leader in video compression technology.

Both companies are privately held and backed by venture capital. (Capitol Broadcasting, the corporate parent of Local Tech Wire, is an Inlet investor.)

The Red Herring program honors privately held technology firms.

“This year was especially difficult,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and chief executive officer of Red Herrin, in a statement. “Despite the global economic situation, there were many great companies producing really innovative and amazing products that we had a difficult time narrowing the pool and selecting the finalists.”

Winners will be announced on June 24. Red Herring is hosting its North America Conference in San Diego starting June 22.
