RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Private Equity Wire’s Jason Primack reported Friday that the private equity industry is “overhung” to the tune of $425 billion.

In other words, the difference between raised capital and funds invnested.

Primack cited a report from Andrea Auerbach of Cambridge Associates, who delivered the statistical overview at a conference.

“Considering how many firms claim to be starved for cash, it appears that the PE market might be bifurcating into the have-nots and have-too-muches,” Primack wrote.
