KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Six students from universities across the state have arrived at the

The students are the first crop of Kannapolis Scholars at the campus, a life sciences complex in downtown Kannapolis founded by billionaire Dole Food Co. chairman David Murdock.

The scholars will spend 10 weeks this summer working with renowned researchers in state-of-the-art labs. (N.C. State oversees the four-year $1 million program.)

Each student is paired with mentors from at least two of the eight universities at the Research Campus.
