MORRISVILLE, N.C. – Lenovo is the new No. 1 in computer reliability, according to the latest quarterly report about PC performance from
along with IBM, which sold its PC division to Lenovo in 2005, vauled past Apple into the top spot. Lenovo’s global headquarters are located inn Morrisville.
Asus, which is based in Taiwan,climbed to second.
Behind Apple in third were Toshiba and HP/Compaq.
The Syracuse-based company bases its report on computer repairs handled by Rescuecom for each manufacturer.
"In this economy, consumers and business owners want to know a computer is reliable before they invest hard-earned dollars," says David Milman, Rescuecom’s chief executive officer.
"Our reports are intended to empower consumers when they head out to make purchasing decisions,” he added. “Since technology develops at a rapid pace, our quarterly analyses provide a timely resource."
The top five and Rescuecom scores were:
1. IBM/Lenovo (521)
2. Asus (446)
3. Apple (382)
4. Toshiba (262)
5. HP/Compaq (217)
According to Rescuecom, 0.8 percent of service calls were for Lenovo/IBM vs. an overall U.S. market share of 4 percent.
Asus calls represented 1 percent of repair calls against a market share of 4.6 percent.
Apple repairs triggered 1.9 percent of calls; its U.S. market share was 7.1 percent.
Toshiba machines generated 3.3 percent of calls; its market share was 8.5 percent.
HP/Compaq machines triggered 11.7 percent of calls; its market share was 25.3 percent.
Rescumecom cited analyst firm IDC statistics for market share totals.
