COLUMBIA, S.C. – Well into its first year of operation, Provost Academy is delivering a unique learning experience that is meeting the education needs of South Carolina families.

Initial surveys of students and parents report that 95 percent of those responding are pleased with the quality of the curriculum and the level of contact they have with Provost Academy’s academic advisors.

"Our students are being challenged academically," said Dr. Darrell Johnson, Provost Academy’s Executive Director, "but challenged on a level that is specifically established for them."

"Yet regardless of how rigorous students may find a course or specific lesson," added Dr. Johnson, "Provost Academy students have personal advisors who are available to help them reach the next level of their learning."

Provost Academy is a state-authorized public online high school that is free of charge to residents of South Carolina. More than 1,200 students are currently enrolled in the school, and working toward their regular public high school diploma that is recognized by colleges and employers.

The students study as they would in a traditional school, but in the convenient, safe environment of their own home through computer-based educational programs.

"Students need and deserve the choice that best matches their learning style, and Provost Academy offers a richer experience, personalized curriculum, and a greater variety of courses – more than 100 classes including STEM and AP courses," said Dr. Johnson. "And our students have also been able to benefit from the clubs and activities we have, just like a traditional school."
