CHARLESTON, S.C. – , a provider of online technology to be used in developing more environmentally friendly buildings and structures, has closed on $1.15 million in venture funding.

Zygote Ventures, which is based in California, led the Series A round. Angel investors also participated. Zygote participated in an angel round in 2009 for GreenWizard.

GreenWizard is a Web-based system designed to enable architects, engineers and contractors to search, compare and document Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, products.

“Given today’s economy, an investment of this size for a start-up like ours is an enormous vote of confidence,” said GreenWizard Chief Executive Officer Adam Bernholz.

The company plans to use the funds for more development and marketing of its system.

“GreenWizard offers an entirely unique, cross-search and compare database for a construction market that is very eager for tools to navigate through LEED and other green-product choices,” said Zygote Ventures’ Jerry Fiddler in a statement. “We see an expansive opportunity for GreenWizard, as demonstrated by the immediate receptivity we have already seen for GreenWizard among the [architectural, engineering and construction] community.”
