CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Karl Rectanus, leader of the , will be among people testifying today at a Congressional hearing about education.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

NC STEM is a growing, statewide effort in North Carolina designed to boost education in STEM areas. It receives funding support from MCNC, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Battelle Memorial Institute, and community partners.

Rectanus is testifying at a U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions hearing at E.E. Wadell High School in Charlotte.

Other scheduled participants include: Shivam Mallick Shah, Director of Special Initiatives with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Innovation & Improvement; Rebecca Garland, Chief Academic Officer for N.C. Department of Public Instruction; Ann Blakeney Clark , Chief Academic Officer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools; Margaret Arbuckle, Executive Director of the Guilford Education Alliance in Greensboro; Bryan Setser, Executive Director of North Carolina Virtual Public Schools; and Mary McCray, a teacher at Community House Middle School & Local President of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Association of Educators.
