RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Daniel Primack, writing at Private Equity Hub, reports that first quarter fund-raising for venture capital firms was not a strong one.

Citing preliminary data from Thomson Reuters (of which he is part), Primack says VC firms raised “just $2.66 billion” across 23 funds. “Likely to be worse than the $4.06 billion raised in Q4 2009,” Primack noted, “but already better than the $2.3 billion raised in Q3 2009.”

Primack notes that books for the quarter don’t close until Thursday.
