MORRISVILLE, N.C. – (Nasdaq: TKLC), one of the world’s leaders in text messaging and other communications software technology, is expanding its management team with a new chief technology officer position.
Vince Lesch, a Tekelec executive since 2006, is taking the new post. He previously had served as vice president for product marketing. Earlier in his career, Lesch has worked for numerous telecommunications firms, including AT&T, and also worked at Bell Labs.
Tekelec, which filed for more than 100 patents in 2009 and secured another 27, is tasking Lesch to spearhead development of its technology while also coordinating efforts with other organizations and industry groups for interoperability.
“Our customers require new technologies, economies of scale and foresight to plan for the next wave of network evolution,” said Frank Plastina, Tekelec’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Vince combines technical depth, product vision and industry expertise to proactively identify customers’ needs and Tekelec’s growth opportunities.”
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in mechanical engineering, Lesch earned a Masters in electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
“Tekelec is in a unique position to leverage its strong technology base and knowledge of core networks to help service providers efficiently evolve to all-[Internet protocol] networks and services,” Lesch said in a statement. “We are working with operators around the world to streamline network operations, reduce capex and opex, and migrate to 3G and 4G technology at their own pace.”
