BURLINGTON, N.C. – (NYSE: LH) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David King says the lab testing services giant is consolidating billing operations in North Carolina, a move that will create 346 jobs.

The positions will be created in Greensboro.

Gov. Bev Perdue participated in the announcement at LabCorp’s international headquarters in Burlington.

LabCorp will receive a $275,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. Such funds require a local match.

Perdue said LabCorp will invest $4 million over the next three years in creating the new center.

“Medical and biotechnology firms know that North Carolina is the perfect place to locate, invest and grow their operations,” Perdue said in a statement. “Our top business climate and dedicated workforce continue to attract nationally known companies like LabCorp.”

In addition to the new jobs, some 50 people will be transferred to Greensboro from Burlington.

“LabCorp has historically made major investments in the Piedmont Triad Region, including the construction of our new corporate headquarters in Burlington, job creation in Alamance County and now creation of jobs in our new national billing operation in Greensboro,” King said in a statement. “We are proud to underscore LabCorp’s commitment to supporting economic growth in the Triad, Burlington and Alamance County.”

The firm disclosed plans last November to consolidate the billing operations in either Greensboro or Danville, Va.

County, city and state governments promised nearly $900,000 in taxpayer incentives.

Earlier Thursday, LabCorp announced its profit increased 17 percent last year, including 21 percent in the fourth quarter.

The company employs some 28,000 people worldwide.
