The decline in job openings, to 1,580 from 1,770 in November, snapped a streak of three consecutive months in which the number increased. (For the complete report, )

However, job openings did increase in the Triangle area, SkillPROOF and NCTA noted.

The groups attributed the dip to seasonal adjustments.

“Demand growth over the next several months will provide an indication about the speed of the IT job market recovery,” SkillPROOF noted.

The number of openings in December was 190 more than a year ago.

“The work force analysis of actual IT employment shows a year-over-year increase of more than 6 percent, which is an encouraging trend,” NCTA Chief Executive Brooks Raiford said in a statement. “The IT job openings report for December dips a bit, but that’s typical at the end of the fourth quarter. The preceding three months had shown marked increases, so it remains to be seen whether the positive trend picks back up in the New Year.”

The national IT job demand remained unchanged in December.
