CARY, N.C. – Troy McCall, a longtime life science industry executive, is taking over as chief executive officer as part of a shakeup in management at clinical research organization

McCall replaces Jerry Merritt, who is now the firm’s executive chairman of the board.

Merritt will “work closely” with McCall “to ensure a smooth transition,” the company said in a statement.

“We went through an exhaustive search to find the very best leader for Cetero’s future. Troy surpassed all of our stringent criteria,” Merritt said in a statement. “He understands our business from the perspective of a pharmaceutical client and also brings extensive CRO experience leading global operations. As we enter into this new decade knowing the pharmaceutical industry needs flexibility and rapid, high-quality data, Troy is precisely the right choice to further advance Cetero’s position as the recognized leader in early-phase and bioanalytical research.”

McCall most recently was CEO of Premier Research Group, which also is a CRO. That company employed 1,200 people and operated in 30 countries. Over a 17-year career, McCall also worked at PharmData and Advanced Clinical Research Services.

He holds a Ph.D. in pharmaceuticals from the University of Tennessee and an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Christian Brothers University.
