RALEIGH, N.C. – Retail chain Belk is expanding its outsourcing more of its information technology services as part of an expanded contract with
Belk, a Hosted customer since 2008, chose Hosted for database administration and as a co-location for its credit and debit card service and also will utilize “cloud computing” services that can utilize resources at Hosted’s five data centers. Belk initially chose Hosted for hosting and managed services related to its e-commerce Web site.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Hosted will also be the site for Belk’s backup systems for IT and critical business functions.
Hosted, an infrastructure as a service provider, operates data centers in Charlotte, Raleigh, Cary and suburban Boston.
The expanded contract was announced at the National Retail Federation trade show in New York.
“As a result of our relationship with Hosted Solutions, our systems are more secure and our e-commerce site is more robust than ever before,” said Roddy Kerr, Belk’s chief information officer, in a statement.
“We’ve seen our online sales and traffic increase and anticipate that trend to continue,” he added. “We want to ensure that our infrastructure can easily handle spikes in traffic and create a consistent user experience for our customers. We value our partnership with Hosted Solutions since it allows us to focus on our core business of serving customers.”
Added Rich Lee, chief executive officer at Hosted: “Given the bond that Belk has built with its customers, it can’t afford to have any issues, from a site performance or security perspective that would place that bond in jeopardy. Knowing that, our team of solution architects custom-designed a system, meeting Belk’s requirements.”
