RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International, the Research Triangle Foundation and Pfizer are among the latest organizations and companies to be recognized for efforts to help workers who commute.

The Best Workplaces for Commuters, a public-private partnership, awarded National Standard of Excellence to RTI, the Triangle Foundation and Pfizer, which has operations in RTP and Sanford, as well as the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the City if Asheville.

Of RTI, the group said it “offers a transit and vanpool pass benefit to employees. They are also active in a Transportation Management Association, offer rideshare matching, preferred parking for carpools and vanpools, secure bicycle parking, an employee commuting awards program and emergency ride home through Triangle Transit, compressed work schedules, telework, onsite amenities, and they actively promote healthy initiatives to increase walking and biking. They also have an active cycling group and on-site bicycle repair facility.”

Pfizer was recognized for its “GreenWheels program” that “offers options for employees to contribute toward Pfizer’s mission by participating in some form of ridesharing or commute mode ( i.e. carpool, vanpool, mass transit, biking or walking). Each of these alternative modes of transportation reduces the number of vehicles on our roadways, lowers the carbon footprint, and lessens the stress of commuting while cutting commute costs,” the group said.
